PurpleLab's VIVVA Scores Report is a physician profiling tool designed for healthcare professionals and consumers to make informed decisions relating to provider experience, influence, cost, quality, and innovation. Leveraging PurpleLab’s Connected Real-World Data™ and 100% of Medicare Parts A, B, and D claims to meaningfully score healthcare professionals, the VIVVA Scores Report lets you easily search and profile physicians within the United States instantly.
VIVVA is the measure of a provider’s performance in relation to Volume, industry Influence, Variation in outcomes, Variation in costs, and Adoption of innovation. Each element, or component, objectively reports a provider’s data for the 36-month period between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023 and nationally benchmarks each provider to produce a VIVVA Score. Hover over the components below for a definition of each VIVVA measure and total VIVVA Score.
Analyzing PurpleLab’s commercial medical and pharmacy claims and CMS QE data, 100% of Medicare Parts A, B, and D claims, the VIVVA Scores Report allows users to examine provider scores by data source. Thus, when profiling physicians, users can select to examine a provider’s VIVVA Scores by:
In compliance with the QECP Rules and Regulations, the VIVVA Scores Report is published annually. All VIVVA Score component and composite measures are reported for the most recent 36-month time interval following receipt of QE Medicare data at time of publication. Providers are nationally benchmarked to peers by percentile ranking providers within the same provider segment taxonomy. Provider segment taxonomy types are based on NPPES. Upon percentile ranking each provider, a VIVVA Score of 1 through 5 is assigned to each provider based on the following quintile rankings:
VIVVA Score | Percentile Rank Range | Interpretation |
---|---|---|
5 | > 80% | Significantly better than average |
4 | >= 60% < 80% | Better than average |
3 | >= 40% < 60% | Average |
2 | >= 20% < 40% | Worse than average |
1 | < 20% | Significantly worse than average |
Each provider is assigned a VIVVA Score for each measure: Volume, Industry Influence, Variation in Outcomes, Variation in Costs, Adoption of Innovation, and finally a total VIVVA Score which averages the five aforementioned measures. Please note that not every provider is scored on Adoption of Innovation. In these instances, the total VIVVA Score is the average of the first four measures: Volume, Industry Influence, Variation in Outcomes, and Variation in Costs.
To be scored in PurpleLab’s VIVVA Scores Report a provider must have 500 or more paneled patients with at least one visit in 2023. Providers who do not meet these requirements will not be displayed in the VIVVA Scores Report. Users will receive a message if the NPI does not qualify to be included in the report or is invalid. To be scored for Adoption of Innovation, a provider must have claims activity within PurpleLab’s proprietary list of treatment patterns (shoppable services) and innovation markers. As indicated above, providers without an Adoption of Innovation score receive a total VIVVA Score based on the other measures.
When analyzing a provider’s volume, patients are de-duplicated over the 36-month period. Of note, in comparing volume of claims and patients between commercial and combined (commercial and Medicare) data sources, some providers (< 3%) will show a small Medicare volume drop due to denied claims. We see this primarily in physicians providing immunization, DME, lab, and imaging services as the physician is not always listed on the claim.
